Marriott Chicago O’Hare and Farmer’s Fridge have partnered on an interesting concept – have a vending machine filled with detox salads and healthy snacks vs. junk food. So it’s time to move over potato chips and say hello to Kale and Quinoa Salad.
For the next 5 months – the Chicago Marriott O’Hare and Farmer’s Fridge are going to be test driving this concept with a lobby kiosk. Prices will range from $3 – $12. Not bad if you can grab a quick and healthy option to eat vs. ordering room service and paying crazy prices, delivery fees and service charge.
I’m all about heathy eating on the road. When I land, I try to find the nearest Whole Foods so I don’t tempt myself with junk when I’m in a hurry. (Yes, I’ve learned my lesson.) So my interest was definitely peeked with this concept. I went to the Farmer’s Fridge website to get a little more info. Options include: salads, greek yogurt and berries, veggies and dip and more. They make everything fresh and from scratch EVERYDAY and deliver new salads by 10:00am. Wonder what happens to the unsold salads? First they discount them by a $1 after 6pm and anything left over is donated to a local food pantry.
Of course this got me thinking of how it could be applied to events. This would be a great grab and go option for large conferences – don’t you think?
So the question is – would you buy a salad or healthy snack from a vending machine?
