The past few days were amazing.  It was like going back to school.  The first day of school, you are nervous because you’re meeting so many new people and then you realize that the majority of us are all in the same boat.  Fast track to the end of the year (AKA the end of the conference) and you realize what amazing connections and friends you made along the way and how much you learned in such a short span of time.  That is what the Altitude Design Summit was to me.

Wondering what I learned?  Wow, where do I start…

1) Be original – don’t be an “Internet DJ.” This was from DesignLoveFests dicussion on Collaborations.  It’s so true, put your own spin on things or create something new.

2) When styling for an event or a photo shoot – don’t “karate chop the pillows” via Emily Henderson.  I know this one doesn’t have anything to do with strategy – but seriously had me in stitches when she said this.

3) Regarding Building Your Personal Brand – Jasmine Star said it best…”Keep It Real.” And Cassandra LaValle of Coco+Kelly made it very clear – “If you don’t brand yourself, someone else will.”

4) Key takeaways by co-founder Ben Silbermann of Pinterest discussion – “If you don’t bet on yourself, no one else will” and “If you’re going to do something, make that one thing perfect.”

5) Gretchen Rubin, author of the Happiness Project spoke during lunch and said “Think about being happier vs. Happiness – it’s more realistic.”

The bottom line is this was an amazing experience.  The parties were fabulous, the talented individuals I met was beyond my imagination, and everything I learned will just make me a better person, friend, family member, co-worker and blogger.

Thank you Altitude Design Summit for an unforgetable experience.

Until next year,

It was so nice spending time with you at Alt! Love the photos and synopsis of the events you attended. I'm going to send the photos I snapped of you in the studio lighting design camp today. All my best, Tay.

So fun, Caryl! It sounds like it was an AMAZING experience! Wish I could have attended! xoxo
