Encouragement: Creativity

Thursday, July 5, 2012

Have you ever thought, “I have a great idea,” and then you find out that five other people or companies are doing the same thing? Your excitement balloon has just been deflated. But does it really need to be deflated?

I have lots of ideas. My mister can attest to that. I come up with them all the time. My creative juices are flowing, and I think, “Wow, this is the best idea EVER!” Can you relate? Then, I get really bummed out when I see someone doing what I thought of (clearly it wasn’t my original idea). I feel completely defeated because someone else is doing “my grand idea.” NOT FAIR! Are you with me? It makes me not want to come up with another creative idea.

Well, you know what? I received an email on the 4th of July from Danielle LaPorte (Yes, I signed up for her emails because I love her Fire Starter Book),and it completely changed my mindset. This is why….

The biggest threat to creativity…is the fear that it’s already been done, said, created…(so why bother?)  Say it, do it, make it anyway – but tell YOUR story along the way. ~ Danielle LaPorte

This is so true. There are so many people, entrepreneurs, and companies that do the same thing, but each one has their own uniqueness. So, do you think THERE might be room for my ideas? I’m thinking maybe so.
Someone might be selling itty bitty bags. There are actually lots of people selling itty bitty bags. But they aren’t necessarily selling them the way I would, or you would.
My take away from this wonderful little quote…don’t get bummed out.  Go after your dreams.
